Elevated CSF free kappa light chains correlate with disability prognosis in multiple sclerosis.Rinker JR, Trinkaus K, Cross AH Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO, USA. rinkerj@neuro.wustl.edu Elevated CSF free kappa light chains (FKLCs) may predict disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). We reviewed records of 57 patients with MS with 15-year median follow-up for correlations of disability and CSF FKLCs. Levels > or = 1.53 microg/mL predicted progression to need for ambulatory assistance during follow-up (specificity 87.5%, positive predictive value 88.9%) or within 10 years (specificity 78.6%, positive predictive value 66.7%). Published 10 October 2006 in Neurology, 67(7): 1288-90.
